Of Manner and Biases

I like Manchester United. I have been a follower since the Bryan Robson + Paul Ince era, almost 20 odd years. Thus, whatever they do would almost always be okay. In my eyes, knees, kidneys and nostrils, everyone's out to get them and I mean everyone. Here's a list of possibles and probables MU haters who are evil and under preveliged.

1. Liverpool fans

2. Terrorists

3. All fans of other football clubs

4. Politicians in Perak

5. Anyone I do not like

Thus whatever these group of people would do or say are categorically wrong or at least plain old wrong or at least inferior.

Why is this happening to me? I am Bias. I am and so are all of us and that is why manner is so so important plus the right contextual evidence in any discussion, presentation or debate.

The trick to get people who are bias against us to be on our side is through pre-planned and pre-prepared bias manerism.

1. For a Liverpool fan (a fantastic example), to get free coffee from an MU supporter, tell them in a convincing manner that you wish Ferguson is Liverpool's manager (it will help if you are not wearing a Liverpool T-shirt at the time).

2. For a Perak politician, look calm (smile, offer handshake, bring small tokens, even food is okay) be in the mood to discuss (look at your kids, favourite car, listen to favourite song) then go to meet your opponents. Chances are, there will be a discusion not a fracas. Even wear, 'We love Perak' T-Shirt.

3. For debaters, choose a tone that is not intimidating or humiliating to the other debaters and adjudicators. 'I am your friend and am helping you out tone' would help and would usually score a point with adjudicators and audience.

If you set the right tone in your head, you will have the right manner and with the right manner, people would believe i your matter. Because, if you have the right manner, people would think so to as they are your audience, audience who can only see what you show and lsiten to what you say, what's inside is invincible to them.

P/S do not smile and look calm if you are up aginst a mugger. They will not be kind to their own mothers.

Kay Pees Eyes

Well, it is really nothing to shout about, the KPI's, I mean. It should have been in any organization worth their salt to have some kind of mechanism to evaluate staff performance in lieu with the organizational objectives.

Thus, when people all over the country jumped, hopped and dived on the KPI's bandwagon, a startling thought crossed over me, "We've never done this before?

In debate, parliamentary debate that is, KPI's and KRA's is like the name of the game. We set objectives and tell our debaters how best to achieve them and then evaluate them through results and observation and do the same things again.

I guess, things, ideas, procedures which we debaters deem as normal is not so in the real world, or only maybe in Malaysia. I do worry.

Same Ol Story

Think

Get Ideas

Debate them

Get solid proposal

Put action plan on the proposal

People love the idea, some are even willing to pay for it

You and mates were extremely bungee jumping type happy,

Then people walked up to you and say, "Mate this is international class, simply superb"

Then you would have thought, "Hey I could make a few bucks from this idea".

Nope, CANNOT. That's the WUPID fate.

International event, attended by royalties, supported by one of the biggest banks in Malaysia but you cannot make two bucks out of that nice idea.

It is better to bring Il Divo, better to get FI to be here but not up to the mark when the great idea was Malaysian Made.

Sad, it is great when it is someone else's but not when its your. The wonderful world world of WUPID.

Of Divine Intervention

The CEO of Malaysia Airlines stated loudly that life cannot run away from divine intervention(DI). True and agreed to by many.It is jsut that some people stretch and squirrel the divine intervention part too much for anyone's liking.

HOW DI WORKS:

1. You have a clear profitable objective/s that has been tested and proven by trends and studies.

2. You have a plan.

3. You have action plans with clear vision on the make ups of the people needed to to implement the actions successfully.

4. You implement the actions, they fail... THEN YOU CAN CLAIM IT WAS DI.

Other than that, it is ususally due to lack of planning or even simle laziness. For debaters on a losing streak who canot even convince the poor African to eat free food, well... look at the list above, before blaming adjudicators for your poor result.

Of AllAsians

I was there at the first AllAsians in NTU Singapore. It was amazing we even got there.Lack of funding, no proper address, famous first speaker who decided to skip the event, well all the usual negativities (according to Sir Elton) came on the day we got to Singapore.

Well we got there, me, Daniel and Teh Chee Seng. We had only one plan, pray hard to be the proposition all the time as that was my specialty. I could squirrel a motion that would make Plato himself proud. My second speaker has no understanding of matter what so ever, he was and still is I fancy, the perrenial manner man. Chee Seng, well he was sort of the unholy glue, relentless, repeating all that was worth repeating through wonderful repackaging of our not so strong points combined with the opponents' rebuttals. It went quite well till we got to the octo-finals. Somehow or rather, we were the opposition and as our plan did not cover that particular issue, we were floored through a double squirrel from our namesis.

Fun, it was that first AllAsians. Soon, it may not be around anymore, thanks to idiots who just do not appreciate history. It has been around for 13 years, countless heroes like Peejay Garcia, Prabha Ganesan, Taufik well but to name a few that came through this wonderful tourney. Suddenly, some morons are playing the fool with this long history of fun debating and a sure fire friend making place. Idiots and morons. Am I angry, YES I AM.

Not easy to have a worthy idea

Not easy to build a plan to see the idea become whole

Not easy to see the idea become great

Not easy to get people to believe

Not easy to break down either,

Break it down all you doomsayers,

Tomorrow I will build it back with this bare hands with debaters who love debating and friend making,

It will not take much as the most crucial piece is already there, someone thought of the idea,

Let us not forget the person's contribution to Asian debating and let us not waste the time spent by Omar Sallahudin writing the constitution.

Let us not kill, let us build, together.

Guilty Until Proven Innocent

It is disheartening when I heard about the big bonus pay off for AIG's top execs. It will take a great line up of debaters to be able to defend that line.

This era of slumps and lumps, we should go back to the French Revolutionary era and revisit an old but extremely suitable concept in this current climate. We are all guilty until proven innocent or rather people in certain climates or involved in certain issues should be seen as part of the environment till they are viewed as heroes, saviour, etc. This undoubetedly should include the AIG execs who should prove their worth before taking the bonus, Obama who should see the economy climb a bit more before being paraded as a saviour in Europe and also Najib Razak who should really have a couple of dozen weeks excluding honeymoons, to rectify the money politics, Malay issues, etc.

Let us get the prososal to show result first before crediting anyone with anything. It is at times so useless to ask those who cannot comprehend the concept of numbers to count.

Simply put, bright ideas do not equal result. Get us some result first o' great execs and leaders of the world or forever would you be the bane of the debaters who in a debate have to be the side that defend your unproven but highly rewarded proposal.

Litany o litany of boredom and unfathomable frustations.
