In the old days, the heroes would be straight forward good noble gentlemen. They would fight fair, be curt though sometimes possessing rough exteriors but never, never ever can they be associated with anything remotely negative. The heroes of the old days would be shown in great torments if they have to decide between fighting for one brother or a good friend for the throne of a kingdom or to tell the wife that he will have to fight hundreds of marauders the day after instead of staying home with her. It was as clear as daylight then and still crystal clear now that they are good human with crystal hearts.
Heroes were like that in the old days because society demanded it to be like that. We do not have many clear cut heroes anymore and if we do, if we're talking movies here, probably they won't sell as well.
Why so? Why are we living in constant need of fallen heroes, gangsters as heroes, thieves as heroes (remember Clint Eastwood in Blondie trilogy or Michael Douglas in Wall Street) or even ghosts as heroes? We, well rather most of us would claim that we are mature enough to know that humans are not perfect and thus heroes should also be imperfect.
Imperfection, imperfection in God's creation? Well even if I do agree on the imperfection issue, why must imperfection equals bad, negative or not kind?
Friends, heroes have changed because of our demands. we demanded the change and the stories and the movies followed suit. Society have decided on the kind of preferred heroes wanted.
Maybe, our society is too bad that we want our heroes to be bad too so that we will fill good after all the bad things that we have done. All the lies,the corruption, the abuse of power, the killings, the hoardings...
We really do then deserve evil doers as our heroes as maybe we see ourselves in him.

ReplyDeleteOk. I partially disagree on this statement. No, we do not look gangsters or thieves as heroes. Perhaps, some of them might think that, but in fact in most of the time, the gangsters themselves think they are heroes of the society. In my opinion, heroes him/herself does not changed. The only changes is the world, where the demands of world are not only specific in safety (just like the ancient world), but our demands have been categories into several field. Information technology, for instances, Steve jobs had created things that are essential for the society. He knows what's people needed (people themselves do not know what they want) and lead them to the more advance level in technology. When his products were introduced, people will feel shocked and found that, oh! This is the things I want! Therefore, Steve had become the heroes in this field. While for the corruption occurred, sad to say that it happens all the time. This is an example of imperfection in human being. However, I believe that the true heroes still exist in this world!
ReplyDeleteHeroes for me are someone who uses to protect somebody from dangerous. Everyone can be heroes. Gangster, thieves can’t claim themselves as heroes because they’ll only bring harm to society. Heroes already exist since a years ago where the old heroes fight for the religion and kingdoms but such had state in the statement about imperfection .Nobody is being born to be perfect but it doesn’t meant imperfect is the worst or the bad one or can might be can be good one in the other side. It’s up to the individual to avoid differing the bad or the good things depends or subject matters.
ReplyDeleteI think hero is someone who helps us or help protect somebody from danger. During old days, there are many wars happened and people always address those gangsters as their heroes. But nowadays everyone could be our heroes. One of them would be our leader or those who contribute themselves in our society. Taking prime minister as an example, he takes his effort in making our country a safe and progressive country. Many people have benefited by a lot of government programs. Another most important hero in our life is our friend. Friend is the one who always help us when we are in trouble. Friend can protect us from danger and always keens in share whatever good things with us.
ReplyDeleteI think heroes can be anyone for nowadays. Superman,spiderman,batman and so on are the imaginary hero just exists in comic world. In reality , we are thirsty of heroes. Hero is someone that make some good contribution to the society. The contribution can be small or big as long as it can bring benefits to society.
ReplyDeleteI think one attribute of most heroes in fiction is that they are humble and do not always think of themselves as "the hero". Most of the time, they are just average people with special abilities.
ReplyDeleteHero is the one that can always help us in our daily life. Some of the people look their parents as their hero. This is because their parents always protect them from stranger or gangster. Thus, Everyone can have a hero in their heart. For example, the orphan will look those philanthropist that always donate things to them as their hero.
